The artist has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which works to save the Britain's independent music venues.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues had in his early career.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces received funding support in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that money from concerts in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to give his honor funds to good deeds.

In Pulp won the award in 1996 for their release Different Class, vocalist Cocker stated that the group would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her award among a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, the band contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year they gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning affected the lives of others."

Last week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in the city and the second in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "stakes" in the venues.
